About Ikoba Girls’ Secondary School
Ikoba Girls’ Secondary School is a girls’ secondary school located in Bwijanga Sub-county, Bujenje County, Masindi District, along the Masindi–Hoima Road.
The school was established through the efforts of the local community with a desire to expand access to secondary education within the region.
From its humble beginnings, Ikoba Girls’ Secondary School has developed into an institution focused on providing quality education and creating opportunities for the girl child.
Our History
The story of Ikoba Girls’ Secondary School began in 1977, when the people of Bwijanga Sub-county established a private mixed day secondary school under the foundation of the Church of Uganda (C.O.U.). The school began with very limited resources, with some of its earliest learning facilities being grass-thatched structures.
In 1982, the Government began supporting the school, marking an important step in its growth and development. By 1985, the school had transitioned into a girls’ secondary school with boarding facilities. During this period, Ikoba Girls’ Primary School supported the growing school by providing dormitory facilities for some students.
In 1988, the Government took over the school, strengthening its development and providing greater support, particularly in the provision and payment of teachers. In 1989, Ikoba Girls’ Secondary School officially attained the status of a girls’ boarding secondary school.
From its humble beginnings, the school has continued to grow in academics, infrastructure and opportunities for learners.
